Knitting

I've always wanted to learn to knit, just to be able to make an item of clothing (or what-have-you) out of some 'string' and proudly state "I made it!" sounded like something I wanted to get in on! When I started my career in animation my co-worker & previous classmate Nicole was knitting iPod stockings for everyone at work, and it re-sparked my need to knit! So when I did a little Harry Potter sorting quiz online and found out that I was a Hufflepuff, I soon went on a search for a website that would tell me how to knit a Harry Potter scarf and found what I was looking for here! My fiancee's mother, Laurie, is a master knitter of highest skill and knits her own delicate doilies even, what a perfect teacher! After finding the perfect yarn for this project, I set out to learn to knit.
This is how it went, and still goes.

Laurie started me out with some practice stitches and castings, and when I felt confident enough and we bought the proper needles, I started the actual scarf. My first castings were perfect, but after a few rows of knitting I ended up with a wierd loose thread down at the beginning. So I pulled them out and re-started, which went well until I got the same problem as before. Laurie tied it off and said we could deal with it at the end, so I kept knitting! Luckily for me Laurie was right there to help explain what I was doing wrong and help me fix a few dropped stitches and wierd random loops; till I got to this point:

And after a week, I'm really proud of myself for getting this far on my own:

... To be continued! (ie. I'm still working on it!)

I got the pattern from knit.atypically.net if you're interested in making your own Harry Potter scarf & more!
